The Carihuairazo is a volcano shutdown of the Ecuador, in the western Cordillera de los Andes. Andes. It is located only 10 km from the Chimborazo. It has three peaks; its main summit that reaches 5,018 m, and two smaller peaks, "Mocha" with 4,960 m and "Josefinos" with 4,900 m.

Its name comes from the words Quichua cari ("man"), hauaira ("wind") and razu ("snow"), and according to local legends he lost a battle he had with the taita Chimborazo for getting the love of the mom Tungurahua; for this reason its crater is headless.

It is a mountain very visited by climbers because it is a relatively easy ascent and allows a good acclimatization to attack higher and more difficult peaks later on.

DETAILS

07:00 The trip starts at your hotel in Riobamba or designated place.

08:30 Arrival at the Chimborazo Fauna Reserve in the Carihuairazo sector.

09:00 Start of trekking through the moor at 4200 for approximately 3 hours, during the trekking the mountain gives us beautiful and impressive landscapes, with small lakes, birds, polylepis trees and volcanic rock until we reach the snowy area where we can observe the famous frozen lake and enjoy their environment.

12:00 Arrival at the frozen lagoon at 4600 m altitude.

12:30 Box lunch.

13:00 Return to the starting point.

17:00 End of tour at your hotel in Riobamba.
